Depending on where you live, watering and maintaining natural grass all year can be an exhausting chore all summer long. If you don’t enjoy yard work or can’t necessarily afford to water grass all summer long, you might consider switching to synthetic grass. While there are some definite advantages to artificial grass, there are also some drawbacks that you should be aware of so that you can make an educated decision.

Maintenance

Natural grass requires watering, mowing and raking at a minimum. But having a beautiful, green, well-kept lawn will require more than the basic maintenance. To have a lush, green lawn, you’ll need to apply fertilizer, insecticide and other products to ensure that your lawn is healthy. This is the probably the biggest drawback to natural grass. Artificial grass requires minimal maintenance, because there’s no need to  mow, fertilize or irrigate. Although artificial grass will still require raking to remove leaves during the fall, it is essentially maintenance-free!

Look and Feel

It is hard to compete with the look and feel of natural grass. While most synthetics are soft and comfortable to walk on with bare feet, it doesn’t quite feel the same as natural grass. Recent advancements to artificial grass can give the illusion to friends and neighbors that you have natural grass, due to the multicolored blades that are used to create it. No matter how much it might look like natural grass, it just isn’t quite the same.

Cost

Cost is generally a big factor when homeowners make a decision. While artificial grass can come with a huge initial cost up front, it pays for itself over time. Synthetic requires your yard to be dug up, a layer of sand laid and then topped with a layer of rubber pellets. All of which must be leveled prior to the turf being installed. When you compare these costs with that of traditional sod, sod is considerably cheaper. But, it is important to remember that natural grass will require costly maintenance year after year that artificial does not. In addition, artificial can last 15 to 20 years, saving you money in the long run.

At Great American Green, we make installing synthetic grass not only affordable, but the best choice for any homeowner! With an artificial lawn, you don’t have to spend your precious summer months sweating over your grass, instead you can enjoy it with your family and pets! The choice is clear, synthetic grass is the best option for any homeowner who wants to enjoy their yard and not be a slave to it.
